Transition Steps (Loading Animations)

A Transition Step is a special step that shows an animated loading screen between form steps. It creates a brief pause in the funnel flow that builds anticipation, simulates processing, and makes the experience feel more interactive. Transition steps are commonly used before showing results, quotes, or the final submission step.

When to Use Transition Steps

Transition steps work well in these scenarios:

  • "Hang tight, we're finding the best options for you..."
  • "Processing your information..."
  • "Crunching some numbers to see if you qualify..."
  • Building anticipation before revealing a price, quote, or recommendation

They are especially effective in insurance, mortgage, and financial lead funnels where leads expect some processing time.

Adding a Transition Step

  1. In the builder, click Add Step in the steps panel on the right.
  2. Select Transition as the step type.
  3. The step appears in your flow. Click it to configure the settings.

Configuration Options

Setting Description Default
Headline The main text displayed above the loading animation. Required
Subheadline Optional secondary text below the headline for additional context. None
Icon Style Choose between a spinning circle or pulsing dots animation. Spinner
Icon Color The color of the loading animation. Defaults to your form's primary color. Primary color
Delay How long the transition step displays before automatically advancing (1 to 10 seconds). 1 second

How Transition Steps Work

  1. The lead completes the previous step and clicks Continue.
  2. The transition step appears with your headline, subheadline, and loading animation.
  3. After the configured delay, the funnel automatically advances to the next step.
  4. No user interaction is needed. There is no Continue button on transition steps.

If the next step after a transition is a Thank You step, the lead's data is submitted before the transition finishes, so the submission happens seamlessly.

Animation Styles

  • Spinner – A spinning circle animation. Clean and professional, suitable for most use cases.
  • Pulsing Dots – Three dots that pulse in sequence, creating a wave effect. More casual and friendly.

Transition Steps and the Progress Indicator

Transition steps are excluded from the progress indicator count. This means they do not add a dot or bar segment to the progress display, keeping the progress accurate to the actual form steps the lead interacts with.

Pro Tips

  • Keep the delay between 2 and 4 seconds. Too short and it feels pointless; too long and leads may abandon.
  • Write headline text that implies something is happening, like "Checking available plans in your area" rather than a generic "Please wait."
  • Place a transition step right before your contact collection step (where you ask for email and phone) to create a sense of investment and increase conversion.
  • Transition steps do not collect any data, so they do not affect your webhook payloads or lead records.
  • You can place multiple transition steps in a funnel, for example one before qualification results and another before the final offer.
